Revise the filling of the headset, reveal the potential of empty surfaces, load the dining area and remember tricky kitchen life hacks. A comfortable kitchen is like a perfectly packed suitcase: the principle “everything fits in, there is still room left” applies to both. If this is definitely not about your kitchen, read this post: gathered ideas on fixing the storage situation in the kitchen area.
1. Make Drawers and Shelves of different Sizes and Shapes
Although this option is only available for custom kitchens, you can also optimize the finished set, for example, by choosing the right dividers for the drawers. However, the assortment of cabinets, drawers, and shelves of different sizes will allow you to fill the set with kitchen utensils with maximum density.
Thinking over the kitchen’s filling to order, we advise you to include in the design a couple of narrow drawers for storing bottles, and if there are animals at home – a drawer in the lower part for pet dishes.
2. Choose Built-in Appliances
It is more compact than a similar free-standing one, which will help gain a few centimeters of usable area for the kitchen. And to relieve the work area and make the interior visually cleaner, plan a separate cabinet for the oven, microwave, and other appliances. It is good if it is up to the ceiling: then additional storage space will be added above and below.
Will there be little cooking at home and no need for a cupboard? Then, limit yourself to a column or build only a refrigerator in the headset, unless, of course, a design device like the SMEG retro model is planned.
3. Place the Dining Table (or Combine it with the Island)
To increase the functionality of your dining table, choose models with drawers, shelves, or rails at the ends. If space permits or the kitchen is combined with the living room, think of a table combined with an island.
4. Replace the Hanger with a Ceiling Metal Rack
Such a rack will be appropriate in any modern interior if the table is rectangular. Of course, one should not expect big bonuses in terms of functionality from the design: usually, pots with flowers, pretty dishes, or boxes with little things are placed on such racks. But you also need to find a place for them – why not here?
5. Engage Kitchen Area
You can carve out some space for storing spices, your favorite cups, and everything that would be nice to keep close at hand, right on the work surface wall. This can be a long shelf, a niche (if the layout allows), or upper cabinets complemented by small drawers below without doors.
6. Do not Leave Empty Space by the Window
You’ve probably seen projects with a work area by the window. How about using the walls? If they are wide enough, you can move part of the headset here …or add shelves to space.
7. Connect the Space around the Doors
Evaluate its potential: perhaps, above the doorway and on the sides, it is really possible to construct a rack for beautiful dishes and decor.
